The Mountain of My Life

The Mountain of My Life

The sun broke through today and I smiled.
It was nice to see the image of you, even for a while.
For the sun doesn’t shine often where I live.
I long for the warmth and healing it gives.

Then just as quickly as it shone
A cloud did obscure my view
And I was reminded how dark life can be
When I realize I live without you.

For at the bottom of this mountain
Where the sun doesn’t often reach
I remember my life before you left
“Return to me,” I beseech.

I am lonely, at the bottom of my life,
And I try to climb up the mountain,
To see the sun again,
To escape my pain and strife.

I had a good life with you, my friend
I had a happiness that did not compare
I had a love, I thought without end
And now I am left in despair.

But I will one day begin the climb
A journey that begins with one step.
I will reach the top and sunshine
To look back at the sadness, with me, you left.

I will remember our days of laughter and light
At the rarity of true love that we shared
I will remember how much you meant to me
To you, they will never compare.

I will experience a new happiness
Different from the wonderful life we shared
I will cherish you always, my love, my life.
I will remember the feeling I loved…being your wife.

So until the sun shines once more
And warms me with its rays,
I will stay here at the bottom
Dreaming of former days.

I love you and miss you and can’t accept
I long for a time that my mind can forget.
That you left me for now, that you are not here.
I love you, I miss you, I won’t forget you, my dear.
