The Bridge

The Bridge
Blue and White
It stands with grace
A picture of beauty
Without a face.
A symbol of home
That will never be the same.
Striking and stoic
It knows not your name.
It has been the scene
Of many a death.
A place chosen often
By the sick or bereft.
The signs are there,
A number to call,
But they also mark
The best place to fall.
It is a two hundred-foot drop
From the top to the sea
To San Diego Bay
Where you ceased to be.
It did not mourn your death
It did not know your life
But it has contributed often
To peoples pain and strife.
The will to live overcome
By the need to escape the pain
The need to end the suffering
And lives are never the same.
The spot chosen for finality
For you can not turn back.
The spot takes with it answers
And the good-byes that we lack.
It is still a symbol of home
And such a beautiful sight.
I look at it now as the place
Your spirit took flight.
I Miss You Daddy.
