The Ring

She moved her wedding ring yesterday.
And I found it hurt me deep.
She moved the symbol of her promise
The vows she swore to keep.

But he his gone and she mourns his death
With every breath she takes.
Keeping it there plays tricks on her mind
For him to come back she waits.

He is not coming back her mind tells her heart
But the thoughts don’t always make it through
So this was the choice she had to make
For her mind to convince her heart it’s true.

She wants the thoughts in her mind to stop
To no longer go on and on
The pain cuts like a knife each day
And she wonders how to go on.

I try to provide the comfort she needs
But I often don’t know what to say
To help her make it through the grief
To find some joy in each day.

One day she will find it in a simple thing
And maybe she’ll put back that wedding ring.
Back on the finger to which it belongs.
There to reside for eternity on.
