Do I Know You?

Do I Know You?

The man I knew is not the man that died.
The man that died is not the man I knew.
It is hard sometimes to remember
That both of them are you.

You told me you were fine, Daddy
When I questioned why you were sick
You told me not to worry about you
This illness you were going to lick.

But you lied when you said that
To me that last November.
You looked me in the eye and spoke
It is something I’ll always remember.

I questioned the doctors,
Everything they said
You told me they knew what they were doing
And in April you were dead.

But the man that died was not my Daddy
He was a man I did not know
For the Daddy that loved me always
Would not have chosen to go.

I miss you more than anything
And it has been three years
You would think at some point
I would start to run out of tears.

But the supply is ever flowing
And I never will forget
How you chose to leave this world
Taking with you the stranger I never met.
